He started playing cricket when he was just 11 years old.
In 2011, Sameer Rizvi caught the attention of Uttar Pradesh captain Suresh Raina in a Ranji Trophy match between Uttar Pradesh and Saurashtra as Raina was impressed by the fielding efforts of Rizvi. Raina later gifted him his sunglasses.
After his father was diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage in 2020, there was a point when he had to step up as the main breadwinner of his family at a very young age.
Sameer Rizvi was 16 years old when he made his first-class debut for Uttar Pradesh in the 2019–20 Ranji Trophy on January 27, 2020.
He went on to make his List A debut for Uttar Pradesh in the 2021–22 Vijay Hazare Trophy on December 11, 2021.
His noteworthy batting skills during the UP T20 League attracted the attention of some of the IPL franchises such as Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Rajasthan Royals and the teams asked him to attend the trials. However, Sameer Rizvi was unable to attend the trials as he had commitments with the Under-23 squad of Uttar Pradesh.
Chennai Super Kings bought him for 8.40 crore in the auction for the 2024 Indian Premier League tournament in December 2023. He became the highest-earning most expensive uncapped player in the 2024 IPL auction.
As Sameer Rizvi was bought for a record price in the 2024 IPL auction by Chennai Super Kings, many media reporters, neighbors, and other people flooded his house.
